If the receiver is unable to arrange pickup in 90 days then the funds. The transfer remains idle in the system, inaccessible to the receiver. After 90 days, only a refund can be processed on the request of the sender.

If a person uses Western Union more often in order to transfer funds within a country or to overseas then he will be able to access the transaction history of 5 years that was initiated and paid online at the Western Union official website. He/she will also be able to access the 90 days transaction history if the transfers were initiated online and were paid at any of the agent locations.

Note that the transfers that started or initiated and paid at the agent locations cannot be accessed.

How to access transfers older than 5 years?

If a person has made transactions that are older than 5 years and he wants to access the history of those transactions then the process will be a bit different. In such a case, Western Union has a Transfer History Request Form that has to be filled and it will then allow the customer to access the transaction history older than 5 years. 

The first thing a person has to do is to select in the form that is he a sender, receiver or a third part.

If he is a sender or a receiver, he will need to provide the following information.

  •  First and Last name
  • Date of birth
  • ID (Driving license, State-Issued ID, Passport)
  • Money Transfer control Number (MTCN) for that specific transfer or Western Union can send you a receipt for that.
  • Date of transaction
  • Address

The third-party requests are only allowed if the person submits the supporting documents with a proof of the request. Also keep in mind that whoever requests for history whether the family on behalf of a deceased family member or lawyers on behalf of a client, both need to present the request with a power of attorney.

Furthermore, the request will be delayed by 2 to 3 weeks as the legal team will review it and then approve the request to be processed.
